What is microencapsulation?

Microencapsulation is a technology that involves coating bioactives or probiotics within a microscopic capsule, creating a new functional ingredient.

At NUCAPS, we have taken microencapsulation one step further by using natural proteins as the encapsulating material, enabling us to offer a unique solution: effective, sustainable, and suitable for the food, nutraceutical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

 

Our technology combines nanotechnology and protein encapsulation to provide a natural, effective, safe and scalable oral delivery platform for bioactive compounds.

1. Protection: Microcapsules act as biovectors, shielding ingredients against oxidation, temperature, mechanical stress, pH variations, light, gastric enzymes, etc.

2. Natural transport: Once in the intestine, microparticles adhere to the digestive mucosa, releasing the active efficiently and boosting bioavailability up to 50x.

3. Extended shelf life: Through microencapsulation, products preserve their properties for longer, ensuring greater freshness, stability and efficacy throughout their storage period.

4. Controlled & Targeted release: Depending on design and application, capsules can release the ingredient:
– Gradually over time
– In response to stimuli (pH, temperature, friction, etc)
– At specific sites of the digestive system

5. Size controlled particles: Precisely engineered particle sizes ensure optimal dispersion in formulations.

6. Masking of odors and flavours: Microencapsulation mitigates unpleasant tastes and odors, making the intake or use of certain ingredients tolerable.

7. Fully customizable microcapsules: Including plant or animal proteins answering microplastic ban or adaptable to plant-based diets. A wide range of proteins enables the design of microcapsules with optimal        compatibility for both the active ingredient and the surrounding matrix.
