The Department of Industry, and Ecological and Business Digital Transition has resolved the call for aid for strategic R&D projects 2024-2027, for which 15 projects will be carried out that will mobilize 27.1 million euros. The call supports business initiatives around challenges considered strategic for the Foral Community.

NUCAPS will receive a grant of €464,493.46 to finance its participation in the following projects:

Plentyfood

Within the challenge of Healthy and Sustainable Food, Nucaps will participate in the project: Development of healthy and sustainable foods with the capacity to regulate intake.

This is a project led by Tutti Pasta, which seeks to develop healthy diets for the treatment and prevention of malnutrition and obesity, aimed at vulnerable population groups.
In this case, Nucaps will develop bioactive food ingredients with satiating power through its microencapsulation techniques.

The aid granted for the project is 1,006,155 euros.

Alba

Within the challenge of Personalized Medicine and Advanced Therapies, this project is focused on the identification of microproteins (MPs) to generate cancer vaccines.

Led by the Foundation for Applied Medical Research (FIMA/CIMA), it seeks to increase the number of patients who can benefit from immunotherapy treatments, developing oral vaccines for different types of cancer in which NUCAPS will use its nanoencapsulation technology to protect replicative RNA and direct it to its proper release site to achieve high efficiency and ease of administration to the population.

The aid granted for the project is 1,701,960 euros.

Revolution

A project focused on the evolution of structural RNAs in colon cancer for personalized medicine.

Led by the Foundation for Applied Medical Research (FIMA/CIMA), we will work with structural RNA (stRNA) as a cancer treatment and for the development of precision and personalized medicine. This project represents an exciting challenge in an expanding field such as RNA therapy. NUCAPS will develop nanocapsules for oral delivery and direct it to the appropriate release point for efficacy.

In this case, the aid granted to the project is 1,384,201 euros (challenge 3).

Circublack

Within the challenge of circular economy projects, from NUCAPS we will also participate in this project led by SMURFIT KAPPA, which tries to solve the environmental problem of treating waste and by-products from the paper sector.
The project seeks to valorize them through the extraction of lignin and its subsequent transformation into products with high added value through innovative and pioneering technologies to replace synthetic compounds used in the manufacturing processes of cosmetics, drugs, foods, polymers, and rubber. or fuels among others.

Lignin has great antioxidant potential and NUCAPS will use it to develop bioactive functional ingredients that can be used in food, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics to improve people’s health, also solving a sustainability problem.

Europe is the world’s second-largest generator of pulp and paper, representing more than 20% of the world total.

The aid granted to this project will be 648,648 euros.
